RESPONSE TO: “WHAT A FRIEND WE HAVE IN DEMOCRATS”

In DIASPORA TALK, HOT BUTTON TOPIC, THE PEOPLE'S NEWS on August 27, 2008 at UTC.15.31.

This feels like my first real blog. Perhaps, because I wrote my response in like 3 minutes after reading the article, I felt strongly about it, and didn’t need any props to spur my words. This is in response to an article I read in the “Florida Courier” entitled: ” What a friend we have in Democrats.”

The article can be viewed at this site: {http://www.flcourier.com/news/articles/500/1/What-a-friend-we-have-in-Democrats/Page1.html}

I agree with your synopsis, however you offer no alternative. My alternative would be to create an independent voting bloc, “we have no permanent friends, nor permanent enemies, just permanent issues.” If we could rally around this simple mantra then we could effect change in a meaningful way that substantiates the sacrifice of our struggle.
At the same time, many blacks will never change their political affiliation, whats stopping the progressives & radicals from engendering hope by galvanizing all like minded individuals. Its like we need someone to tell us we can do it before the attempt is even made. Our people suffer for lack of knowledge, though some of us are so politically backwards, we don’t appropriate the wisdom, when we hear it into a meaningful & substantial tour de force!
Why? We have been duped into thinking Democrats are for Blacks, when in truth they are formerly called “Dixie-crats!” You know the same Dixie loving, confederate flag waving, slave owning, Jim Crow enacting, racial disenfranchisement, southern redneck, self proclaimed ‘cracker’ who still believes Judge Taney’s words: “the negro has no rights we are bound to respect!” That was in reference to the “Dred Scott Case.”
In the words of Frederick Douglas, the first African-American presidential candidate nominated by the Republican party in 1868, “Power conceded nothing without struggle, it never has & it never will!” The struggle continues…and its time for protracted proactive measures!
