The Paquiao vs Cotto tiltle fight didn’t disappoint. From the opening bell to the 12th round stoppage, this was one action packed fight.

With A-list superstars watching from the audience. Notable figures such as Magic Johnson, Mark Wahlberg, & P-Diddy just to name a few it was a real draw.

Manny has now won at 7 different weight divisions. He started out at 112 pounds, and on saturday night he fought as his heaviest weight; 147 pounds.

Paquiao has the uncanny ability to mix it up with laser like quickness, and jaw cruching power. When the head shots that Manny launched against cotto were replayed they seemed to damn near snap his jaw, neck or head!
Cotto kept it close in the first 3 rounds, but had been knocked down in round 2 & 3! manny was just to much for him. Getting off hooks, jabs, uppercuts–you name it! Manny controlled the fight entirely.

Even, when Manny got caught with a jab or power punch by Cotto, he seemed to not be fazed and continued his assault.
Now, all the world wants to see Mayweather vs Paquiao, so I’m sure it gets done asap!!

This fight was an instant classic, and I don’t regret ‘letting it rain” to see history in the making….

Size Does Matter, Peterson’s Projection Map offers solutions….

Few people know that the current cartography that the world enjoys is rooted in environmental & geo-political racism. White supremacists have infiltrated every strata of society, and every discipline. When “Greenland” is depicted as the same size as the continent of Africa, then its obvious what the intent is.

Which is, to maximize European & Western powers geographical land mass. (read: there geo-strategic interests.) While simultaneously making  the majority of the world’s population appear smaller  in relation to the mighty West! The fallacy is rooted in power.

Note: The world is comprised of 9/10ths of people of color. The remaining 1/10th are European. Clearly, the world ‘minority’ they buttress that fact with doing whatever possible to perpetuate power. Size does matter!!!

For example,  perception is twisted with archaic & false representations of land mass. Moreover, supposed might is embellished due to sinister & ignoble regimes whom seek nothing less than world domination.

Rest assured, that Imperialists have & will continue with every resource at their disposal to conquer the hearts and minds of the world’s citizens by intentionally misleading even the very elect!!

The result of this process is that the image of the continents in the northern and southern hemispheres are elongated by the stretching effect of forcing a spherical projection into a rectangular image. Meanwhile, the continents that brace the equator are “squished”, for lack of a better term, into a projection that falsifies the true size of a particular land mass.

Examples of the sphere-to-rectangle transition include Greenland appearing as large as Africa, Europe and North America seem larger then India, while Australia stretches into the distance. In reality, North America & China are almost identical in size, Europe is more like a sub-continent of Asia and Africa & India dwarf nearly all other continents in size.

The common argument for the creation and use of the “Peterson” map is that it would help school children throughout the world to understand the true nature and size of our world and it’s continents. Also that the enlarged and elongated images only helps to symbolically enforce a Geo-Political sense of supremacy, as it wrongly shows the nations of Western Civilization to be larger than they actually are as well as to always produce them in the middle of the distorted map.”

Supporting Serena in the face of Opposition

Serena Williams lost the US Open despite the fact she is/was the reigning champion. Yet, one would think that she threatened the life of an official with her racket. In fact, some have said as much.

On the other hand, some have said that had it been Melanie Ouidin, or a male player the backlash would hardly be above a whisper. So, are we to glean that tennis has the same issues about race as the larger society? YES!

Tennis is one of those sports like golf, equestrian, cricket, or croquet are seen as the refined sporting events. So, for Ms. Williams who defies all ‘traditionalism’ just by her mere dominant presence, should be suspended or forced to pay an inordinate amount of money.

Isn’t it ironic how her image now is tainted from one misstep. One commentator called her actions typical as if she’s ever been anything but a class act both on & off the court. The impatience with her is at a fevered pitch.

Seriously, if she were living in Salem back in the day, I’m sure she’d be burned at the stake. Now, the stake is the 24 hour news cycle. She apologized but it was seen as being dubious. She didn’t do it soon enough, why did she wait 36 hours before doing it?

Why did she make a statement about the incident without being noticeably contrite? Why did she try to justify her actions by explaining her side of the incident?

The Williams sisters were never good enough to be tennis players, they never played in junior tournaments that is the holy grail of tennis legends. They would never be successful with there father as heir coach. There style was unorthodox and would never pass for true tennis.

These are just a few of the insidious rantings of an establishment whose time has worn out its relevance. People need to note the enduring challenges these sisters face to this day, and the not so distant past. Why? It might provide some context as to why she exploded. Recall, a few years ago when there was no instant replay or ‘player challenges.

Serena was cheated out of a point, and subsequently a major tournament. History would vindicate her because the play wa replayed after the tournament, and she was unjustly cheated. Since that time players, (male & female) have been given 2 challenges per match.

This rule should be called the Williams Rule, it didn’t exist prior to Serena! She’s done more for the game than any other player, yet she’s rebuked like some type of devil. How in the hell do you justify her treatment? Does she have no right express her obvious discontent with an asinine call at a pivotal point (no pun intended) of a match?

Despite, what critics say, Serena is never out of a match, she probably has the toughest mental makeup of all the women’s players. She has ice in her veins! So, it is quite plausible that Serena could have came back. That is why they play the match after all to its irrefutable conclusion.

To end a match on a controversial call, that is never called at that point in a match is incredulous. Moreover, the call was wrong, she clearly had both feet behind the line when starting her ball toss to serve. She clearly stepped over the line as she served. So, in my eyes her indignation is justified!

Who is a non-athletic official to inject her two cents into a match that had enough drama? Why have we not heard from her in regards to the call she made or botched?

I’ll tell you why because we are being distracted by her indecency & distasteful display of sportsmanship. Give me a damn break! John Mcenroe is elevated due to his profane rants. He’s received endorsements for having a ‘personality’ in a game where bland robots are the norm.

What’s the reason for the double standard? One is male, and the other female, so it sexism! One is African American, and one Caucasian, so its obviously rooted in racism! Let’s keep it real! Once more, for Johnny Mac, (commentator for Tennis) to castigate her knowing his vitriolic past is utterly contemptible & smacks of hypocrisy!!!

Serena is the greatest tennis player on the tour, at present. Her sister Venus is arguably the next best player on tour. Where is her due process? Where is her defense?

Right here my beautiful sister, I got your back!!! I support Serena in the face of stark opposition.

Uncivil War….

Martin Luther King said; “We need to learn to be agreeably disagreeable; without being violently disagreeable!”

Never before according to documented reports has a sitting President had to endure the scorn & malicious display that was evident last week during Obama’s health care reform speech.

Never mind your personal politics or what side of the issue you stand upon. Americans are free to criticize their leaders, its one of out most basic freedoms that is a bedrock of American society. So, its not so much what (R) Congressman Joe Wilson from South Carolina said, rather the forum in which he said it in.

The halls of Congress are ’sacred’ for lack of a better time, and their is a unspoken decorum expected from leaders from either side of the aisle. So the un-civil disobedience displayed by Wilson shouldn’t come as a surprise. However, once again the time & place was not appropriate.

President Obama was visibly disturbed by the tirade, but chose the moral high ground by not stooping to Wilson’s putrid malicious disrespectful level. President Obama showed restraint in the face of the most harshest disrespect.

Wilson has since apologized, though it rings hollow considering the source. Consider the following 3 facts about “Good Ole Joe!”

1. Wilson is from the state that rejected the recognition of MLK’s birthday as a National holiday.
2. He denounced the mixed race daughter of Senator Strom Thurmond when she came forth to ’set the record straight!’
3. He’s a known proponent of the confederate flag hanging in the state house in South Carolina. His argument is that this flag is emblematic of his ancestors “heritage!”

Now given his past, what context does his outburst signify? What does it mean when conservatives hold up his statements like Moses speaking to Pharoah? How come their isn’t a groundswell of mitigated remorse from his colleagues? I’ll tell you why because most agree with him, and don’t see a problem with his idiotic outburst.

The conservatives are hastening a ‘race riot‘ with their grotesque display of inflammatory rhetoric. Instigating & fomenting animosity between people, families, communities, states & the illusory metric called ‘race.’

We haven’t seen a reaction from the people that have been castigated by these ongoing remarks,  & actions since the primaries last year. When they respond, and they will—there will be an UNCIVIL WAR.

Conservatives are the catalyst behind this impending conflict. The same seeds of racial disharmony, discord & disrespect will come back to haunt them. For, when you sow the seeds of contempt, hatred & violence then you will sow the very same in return.

“An eye for an eye leaves us all blind!” and ‘physical violence is a waste of flesh.’

This kind of politics is a murky blend of fascism, imperialism & hegemony! As they are the pillars of American society they are struggling for legitimacy in the face of a changing multi-national global community.

What role will you the reader execute in seeing justice prevail in the face of domination & indecency? The sleeping GIANT will not slumber for long, and when he awakens I feel for the perpetrators of moral ineptitude, closet racists who hid behind placards in Congress, and all those who stand behind the confederate flag as some sort off beacon of heritage from America’s bloody past in the dirty south….

When a fire burns, it doesn’t just burn in place it devours everything in its path! So, its disingenuous for conservatives to think that fanning the flames won’t consume them part & parcel.

They better get fireproof ‘drawls’ because the ‘fires in my eyes and those flames need fanning!’

Eagles sign Vick…

He may have missed almost 2 years of competition, but Vick didn’t lose his throwing touch. he was seen zipping balls down field in tight spirals to eager receivers.

In fact, one receiver said he throws the ball harder than anyone he has ever seen!

Many wonder why Vick chose the Eagles franchise over a number of other teams that sought his services. In his own words:

Usain Bolt does it again…

Was there any surprise in the men’s 100 meter sprint? Not if you’re a fan of Jamaican superstar track athlete: Usain Bolt. He destroyed the field by racing to a new World record of: 9.58 seconds.

His closest rival was the American Tyson Gay who seemed sluggish compared to Bolt. He ran a respectable 9.71 seconds taking home the silver medal.

Asafa Powell Jamaican team mate to Bolt placed 3rd and took home the bronze medal. Powell ran a 9.84

“I got a pretty good start,” Bolt said. “I was there at 20 meters and that was it.”

Despite being beat again by Bolt again in a much anticipated head-to-head match-up, gay was gracious in defeat.

“I’m happy he got it. I’m so happy,” Gay said. “I’m happy he ran 9.5 because I knew he could do it, and I know I can do it and I’m happy for him.”

Bolt ran a 9.69 in Beijing last summer, and took the world by storm. It’s unbelievable to think he bettered his personal best by .11 of a second with stiff competition & all the flashing lights on him expecting him to do it again!

B-Easy or the Boozer?

Rumors abound about where Boozer will land this off season. Though, he has agreed to a trade from the Utah Jazz his current team there is no tangible idea just where that is. Miami is his preferred destination, but the Jazz want more than the Heat (read: B-Easy) are prepared to give up. I agree with that, Beasley is in his 2nd season, and its too soon to know what he brings to the table this early in his career.

Some say he will be even better than Boozer, a 20 ppg & 10 rpg player. On one hand, the Heat need to upgrade their roster. However, at what cost? I think they need to develop the young talent they have on their squad: Chalmers, Beasley, Cook, Wright, and Beverly. At the same time, if they can improve exponentially without sacrificing their young core then MAKE MOVES. If only it were that easy.

As a fan its hard to be patient with all the improvements to Eastern Conference rivals like the Magic, Wizards, Cavaliers, Raptors & the Celtics. Wad3 needs help, but he’s shown us that he’s the type of player that can do more with less. So, an all-star upgrade would probably put them into into serious contention. Although, some might disagree the proof is in the 2006 NBA Finals in which the Heat won the crown with an inferior team, according to pundits & analysts.

So, smart money says if Wad3 gets another star to play alongside they can go all the way!! Below is an article about the Heat’s pending acquisition. Let’s hope that the lobbying of D. Wad3 & Boozer has an cyclical affect to land the all-star PF, and USA Olympic gold medalists.

Beasley or Boozer?

“For Miami HEAT fans waking up every morning hoping to see the headline “Boozer to Miami“ it may be time to stop getting your hopes up. Yes, the HEAT are the most logical destination for the All-Star forward but the Utah Jazz are not desperate to trade him. They’re going to wait for the best deal possible and according to {NBA.com’s David Aldridge} they have no problems going into the regular season with him as their starting power forward.

Aldridge indicates that in order for a deal to be completed immediately the HEAT are going to have to let go of Michael Beasley, the player with the most promise on their roster. It’s a tough predicament for the HEAT because while Beasley does have all the potential in the world it’s questionable as to whether or not he’ll develop like they hope. Boozer on the other hand is already one of the best power forwards in the league and his acquisition provides Dwayne Wade with the superstar teammate that he covets. It could be the difference in signing him to an extension now or taking the risk of losing him in next summer.

The last time an organization was in this kind of position was when Kobe Bryant was advocating a trade of Andrew Bynum in order to bring Jason Kidd in to run the triangle. At the time Kobe was so upset by the Lakers decision to hold onto Bynum that he demanded to be traded. The Lakers didn’t budge on that demand either and now here they are as the reigning champions with Bynum as a vital part of their run and future.

Would the Miami HEAT see the same kind of results if they held onto Beasley? Can he be a better player for them than Carlos Boozer?

Those are the million dollar questions right now in South Beach. The difference in the two situations though is at the time Kobe didn’t have anywhere near the kind of leverage that Dwayne Wade has. At the time Kobe was under contract and while he wanted to play on Pluto his only option was to play for the Lakers. If the HEAT pass on Boozer and Beasley doesn’t show significant signs of improvement Wade can leave town at season’s end while they get nothing in return, likely leading the franchise to a rebuilding period. This is why Wade hasn’t taken the extreme stance that Bryant did then. It isn’t worth the negative feedback that it would come with and he has the ability to go wherever he wants in just a few months.

The best decision for the HEAT may be to be patient just like the Jazz. They need to keep a close eye on Boozer just as they need to do with Amar’e Stoudemire and Chris Bosh. The only way Boozer becomes their savior is if they pull the trigger and give up Beasley. Right now they have options and while Dwayne Wade going into the free agent market unrestricted is a scary thought, no one can offer him more money and they can still bring in another All-Star as well.

It doesn’t appear that either team is going to do much other than stay on their current path until they have a legitimate reason to stray away from it. It’s in the best interest of both franchises to let things play out a little bit more and see where things are at closer to February.”

Artest: Deal Maker or Deal Breaker???

NBA baller Ron Artest was recently acquired by the champion L.A. Lakers. He was acquired from the Houston Rockets during free agency. Artest was set to  join his former AAU buddy Lamar Odom also a free agent with the Lakers.

Ironically, the Artest acquisition may have priced Odom out.  Artest only signed for the Mid Levele Exception around $5.85 million, but for the over the cap & luxury tax Lakers–that may prevent them from giving Odom the $$ and years he wants.

So, Artest reportedly has reached out to his fellow NYC native to try & expedite his signing.  Although, Odom has attracted serious interest from the Miami Heat who have made an $35 million offer to him for 5 years.

So, in the past few days everyone on the Lakers from Artest, to Bryant & Fischer have made pitches to Odom to re-up with his NBA Finals winning club.

Even though the Lakers can offer him more money they have only offered him a 3 year deal worth $27 million & a 4 year deal worth $36 million. Odom, wants a 5 year deal. So the Heat has his attention with their 5 year deal on the table.

Though, reports out of LA is that owner Dr. Jerry Buss has rescinded the offer.

Due to the 10.3 state tax, the Heats offer (no state tax) is closer than most even realize. Only time will tell if Odom is seriously considering leaving the World Champs.

Reports from NBA.com suggest that Odom is close to taking the deal from the Heat!

BREAKING NEWS: Morphine, Is this a Cryptic cry 4 Help?

 First & foremost I must say outright, I am a Michael Jackson fan and this blog article isn’t meant to defame or castigate the man, his music or his memory.

As a fan, I did some searches through lyrics to my favorite songs by MJ. To my surprise, I found a lot os songs that I had forgotten about; “Got To Be There, Ben, P.Y.T., The Girl Is Mine, She’s Outta My Life” just to name a few.

I must acknowledge I am more of a fan of his older compilations, moreso than the newer albums. Although, “Butterflies, and Remember The Time” are instant classics. Even to a fickle music critique like myself.

I thought I knew all of his music, despite the fact I don’t own all of his albums. So, imagine my surprise when I saw the title to a song: “Morphine!”

Given all the rumors swirling about his prescription drug use, it surprised me that this song hadn’t recieved more critical acclaim given the circumstances surrounding his death.

Given the recent footage out now from his first accident, recording a commercial for Pepsi-Cola back in 1984, some 25 years ago. In which, Michael’s Jerri-Curl ignited in flames and caused 2nd & 3rd degree burns to his scalp & face!

This is on record for being his first reason to take pain killers (read: presription meds). Now, if you’ve seen the footage of the incident, then you know that MJ was in excruciating pain. I

n fact, he didn’t seem to realize his hair was on fire because he was dancing. Well, now I know why MJ veiled his life in secrecy–the video footage of the ordeal is hard to watch.

Moreover, media pundits have plastered it everywhere. Nevermind the fact that his children or parents have to witness this episode all over again.

Is it a coincidence that this video has surfaced after his death? Probably not, but seeing it only endears me to MJ even moreso. I can empathize with his needing pain killers because that ordeal had to be painful!!

At any rate, this song’s lyrics might shed some light into his pain therapy or his usage with prescribed medicines.

Rather, than denigrate MJ, why has no one punished the Doctor’s that gave him the plethora of medicines he’s purported to have used?

Why aren’t the pharmicists that filled the prescriptions bombarded with negative ad campaigns or sprawled over the 6 o’clock news?

Richard Jefferson was asked last week about his recent trade to the San Antonio Spurs, and his pending nuptials. He said it would be a small intimate ceremony with close friends.

In addition, he said that he hadn’t included any of his new team mates because “he didn’t want them to feel obligated to attend.”

Well, I’m sure his boys wished they would have been given the same respect. RJ, canceled his wedding at the last minute. As a matter of fact, some of the guests were in the swank hotel before they heard the news.

NOW, DO YOU BELIEVE IN MAGIC?

The first Magic act was the unforeseen pilgrimage to the NBA promised land, which saw the Orlando Magic in the the World Championship playing for the title. This was a squad that had been bounced from the playoffs early the last 2 seasons with only 6 wins in the post-season.

They eclipsed that total by 6 in winning 12 playoff games this season. So, what else could the Magic possibly do to earn their NBA moniker? Well, with free agency in full swing early in July, teams couldn’t officially sign players to offer sheets until July 8.

Everyone knew that Magic SF Hedo Turkoglu was widely reported to opt-out of his deal and test the free agency market. It was reported that the Blazers had stepped up to sign the mercurial forward, however their were reports that the Toronto Raptors would join in the bidding.

Well, Turk was in Portland for a weekend to get acquainted with players, management, & the community. Rumors had it that he had accepted the Blazers offer, however that wasn’t entirely true. He hadn’t, so when the Raptors made their pitch for him by offering more than the Blazers; Hedo jumped ’ship” to Toronto leaving a dejected Blazer front office in the process.

Now then, let’s deal with the Magic, recall they traded Courtney Leee & Tony Battie for Vince Carter right after the finals. Many believed, rightfully so, that meant the MAgic wouldn’t match or conduct a sign & trade to get something in return for Hedo.

They didn’t which led the NBA to believe the Magic were strapped for cash, but recall the Magic COO, Alex Martins saying that the luxury tax wouldn’t be an impediment. Why? Well, every playoff game won for played at home during the playoffs generates around a $1 million. That’s quite a haul.

Moreover, the Magic are building a new stadium which should be more financially prudent for them to make $$.

This all was a setup because the Magic had interest in Brandon Bass of the Dallas Mavericks, and Dallas had tendered an offer sheet to Marcin Gortat, the backup center behind Howard.

Well, since it was believed that by signing Bass to a 4 year 16 million deal-the Magic weren’t gonna splurge for a backup in Gortat. At least, that must have been Donnie Nelson’s, (Dallas GM) thinking in Dallas. He couldn’t have been more wrong.

The Magic steal Bass, and resign Gortat! Damn, Magic Act pt. 2. Now, do you believe in Magic? No one saw this happening, but with the shrewd moves of Magic GM Otis Smith he has effectively upgraded his front court big men, by essentially replacing Battie with the younger, tougher Bass.

This move alone stands to improve the Magic rebounding, defense & offensive productivity. Now, Rashard Lewis can move back to his natural SF position, and Howard will have a beast in the front court with him whom can battle on the boards, stretch the defense with his jump shot, and add more muscle to a finesse team that badly needs to reinvent itself from the inside out!

• If Wade extends this off-season, he would make $92 million over the next 5 seasons. He would become a free agent after the 2013/14 season at age 32.

• If Wade opts out and re-signs with the Heat, he would make $141 million ($92 million over the next seven seasons (over the first five seasons; $49 million the following two seasons). He would become a free agent after the 2015/16 season at age 34.

• If Wade opts out and re-signs with another team, he would make $112 million over the next six seasons ($90 million over the first five seasons; $22 million the following season). He would become a free agent after the 2014/15 season at age 33.

• If Wade opts in and re-signs with the Heat after the 2010/11 season, he could make $169 million over the next eight seasons ($93 million over the first five seasons; $77 million the following three seasons). He would become a free agent after the 2016/17 season at age 35. Consider this:

• A new, more restrictive CBA is likely to come into effect after the 2010/11 season. Although, like Shaquille & Garnett who had their contracts grand-fathered in were able to get 105% of their old $$ applied to their new deal. The CBA allows for this, so a newer restrictive CBA wouldn’t adversely affect Wade.

• Due to the restraints from the new salary cap & luxury tax threshold, the Heat cannot get the same value for (its over $40 million in expiring contracts) them in free agency next off-season as the team could via trade this off-season. This makes this off-season crucial for Wade & the team to add stars & role players around him.

• For example, the Heat could get back $23 million  of long-term value for Jermaine O’Neal in a trade this off-season. Next off-season, the Heat can only spend up to the projected $50 million salary cap in free agency. Since Wade and Beasley already command $22 million, the Heat would have $28 million to fill out the entire rest of the roster.

Steve “Air’ McNAir

Steve McNair former quarterback for the Baltimore Ravens & the Houston/Tennessee Oilers/Titans was found dead today. Reports claim that he died from a gunshot wound to the head.

“When police officers arrived in response to that call, they found two individuals who had been shot to death inside the residence,”

McNair played in the NFL for 13 seasons, his climax coming in 2000 at the Super Bowl against ‘the greatest show on turf’ the St. Louis Rams. He came within one yard of tying the game and sending it into overtime, though with no timeouts left the clock expired before he could lead his team back to tie the game.

I don’t think there was any other QB with his toughness. He has been known to play with cracked ribs & a bruised sternum. Injuries that would send mere mortals to the infirmary

IN Memory: ..Wonder what Michael Jackson will be in his next Life?

I went to see Michael Jackson in concert twice when he came to Florida back in the mid 80’s. My grandmother took me to Jacksonville, Fl and then to Miami a week later. I even had the opportunity to appear on camera to speak about my love for Michael on the local news station.

I wonder what he will be in his next life? He’ll probably be a butterfly that transmigrates his soul 3 times  first as a cocoon, then a caterpillar, then a majestic black & gold monarch.

Michael had that affect on me and most of my friends. His ability to captivate a crowd with funky fresh moves, as his music grooved in background made for quite a spectacle.

I wonder what he’ll be in his next life? Maybe, he will be a King that restores his peoples majesty & place in the world as the  mothers & fathers of civilization!

No lie a brother wanted to be ‘like Mike‘, and quiet as kept the reason why I loved to dance was, in part due to the inspiration I derived from him as a youngin’. He always exhibited that desire to go hard, and leave the audience with no doubt who they came & wanted to see.

I wonder what he’ll be in his next life? Perhaps, a singer who sings songs of upliftment, akoma (love), peace, & unity!

If you’ve ever performed anything then you know that emotional charge & surge of energy you feel before, during & after the performance. Michael was a master performer. You never left his concert feeling like you didn’t get your monies worth. He left it all on stage. That’s what I respected most about him.

I wonder what he will be in his next life, probably a dancer who invokes the African proverb: “Afrikans dance & become GOD!“

Since, he endured so much critical acclaim in this life about his life, music, appearance etc. I wonder what he will be in his next life? I think he’ll be a wizard in charge of protecting that world from ignoble imperial forces opposed to harmony, righteousness & peace!

I wonder what he’ll be in his next life? Controversial, magnetic, misunderstood, graceful, beautiful, soulful, righteous, electric, and the world’s greatest entertainer.

Michael, you left a lot of endearing fans here on Earth. Wherever you are take our prayers to the feet of the Creator. What we’ve collectively wished for you in your untimely demise, we wish for our selves collectively as humanity.

SERENA TOPS BIG SIS, COLLECTS 3RD WIMBLEDON MAJOR TITLE…

Serena & Venus Williams just won the Women’s doubles championship Saturday at the all-lawn tennis club in England.  Now, on the 4th of July the culmination of  Williams’ sisters phenomenal play thrills with 94% of her serves to top big sis Sunday morning in England.

Although,  Serena is ranked #2 in the world according to the USTA computers. Her supporters know that with her 3 majors titles, 2 this year the Australian Open & Wimbledon, and the U.S. Open last fall. Serena Williams is the people ’s champion.

She has cemented her legacy as one of the greatest women’s players to ever play the game, arguably the G.OA.T. (greatest of all time). WOW, did I just say that.  Yes I did! Serena is just that GOOD!!

Racial Disparities widen with income

Despite being highly educated if you are a minority you won’t command the $ you’re due from your employer. Why?? Seemingly, because of the color of your skin. What other conclusion can one draw from the recent reports from the Census about pay grades between ethnic groups. Look at these facts:

“Blacks and Hispanics are lagging behind whites at the largest rates in roughly a decade when it comes to higher-paying jobs in the U.S.”

So, its safe to say “minorities” lost more than homes, right-to privacy, credit ratings, and civil liberties under the Bush administration.

“Census data released Monday highlight an increasingly educated U.S. work force whose earnings did not always seem to match up with its potential, partly due to a housing slowdown and recession.”

Or, more probably the economic hoarding of assets by the ruling elite is just an extension for what really goes on within the U.S. The facts speak for themselves, and ‘he who feels it knows!’

“About 87 percent of residents last year had graduated from high school and 29 percent from college.”

“But the pay disparity widened for blacks with college degrees. Blacks who had a bachelor’s degree earned about 78 cents for every $1 made by whites. It was the biggest disparity since 2001.”

“Hispanics with bachelor’s degrees made roughly 75 cents for every $1 made by whites.”

So, the moral of the story suggests that ‘minorities’ need advanced degrees just to keep economic pace with their white counterparts whom command a pay commensurate with their education with a Bachelor’s degree. Indeed, this has been a practice and de facto policy for as long as I can recall.

However, with the 24 hour news cycle and the infinite spread of information via the internet, perhaps the slow wheels of change can be obliterated and this discriminatory practice abolished.

Turk spurns Blazers for Raps, the Mrs. decides..

Free agent forward Hedo Turkoglu was in Portland since Thursday reportedly getting a feel for the city & team that he was thinking of signing with. The Blazers offered him a 5 year contact worth about $50 million, although reports surfaced that Toronto was a late player for the 6′10″ small forward.

Turkoglu helped the Orlando Magic get to the NBA Finals this passt season, and was one of the hottest sought after free agents this off-season. Ric Bucher reported that, “Turkoglu’s as a happily married man would take into account his wife’s desire to move to Toronto, as opposed to Portland.” Well, it loooks like she may have played a more decisive role than people in Portland know!

Now, perhaps teams will try & woo the whole family instead of just the player. Technically, when a team signs a player they inherit the whole family.  So it might behoove GM’s to look into flattering the “significant other” as well and not just the player!

She may not play the game like her husband, although her decision making ability being the “House Manager” affords her carte blanche in decisive relocation packages, and refusal or acceptance respectively!

Orlando fans are sad to see Turk depart, but they get to see more of him since he’ll be playing for rival Raptors just across thenorthern border.

When President Obama attended the Summitt of the America’s in Trinidad not many had a chance to see him in this picture. He’s with arguably the greatest cricket player that ever played the game.

At least, thats what I’m told from my boy in Trinidad.  Here is Barack  getting tips on how to stand, & hit the ball with the ‘bat.’ He looks like he wants to kill the ball. At any rate, he looks good enugh to compete at it.

President Obama met with a cricket superstar in ,T-n-T (Trinidad & Tobago), as its affectionately referred to by natives. There is a really cool picture with Mr. Obama gettin in some ‘batting practice.’ His expression on his face is worth a 1,000 words. He appears to really be focused. I think his cricket game is alot better than his bowling game, just goin by looks alone!

I’m sick & tired of racist and ignorant people masking their ideologies behind the 5th amendment. Yes, you have the right to free speech, but you have no right to spew venom and masquerade it as free speech.

According to reports, The owner of the NY Post has apologized for the racist cartoon caricature. Is that supposed to be seen remorse? I can assure it is not viewed as such. In fact, I think that its just that arrogant acknowledgment without any sanctions on the editor or cartoonist that smacks in the face of justice.

This depiction has infuriated a host of people for obvious reasons. Lest we forget ignorance & racial hatred are insidious diseases of the spirit. Let us affirm the desire for those transgressors to recoup their just dues for this gross negligible insensitivity. Surely what is reaped, is sown.

Serena Has Her Swagger & No. 1 rank again

Serena Williams loves Australia. She’s won the title every other year in the millenia this being her 4th Australian Open grand slam victory down under. She totally dominated Dinara Safina in the final match 6-0; 6-3 that showed both Williams poise & power as the number one player in the world.

When she plays like this there is no one in the world that can play on her level, except for Venus her older sister.  She dispatched Elena Dementieva in the semi-finals match that was her easiest match in the whole tournament.

 

Seerena has staked her claim as the best women’s tennis player on the planet, and I don’t see her relinquishing it anytime soon. In fact, Ms. Williams is the all-time leader in monetary winning in women’s ATP history. She’s won more than 20 million over the course of her whole career.

In addition, Serena has won more Grand Slam titles than Monica Seles, this being her 10th Grand Slam. She is approaching the legendary status of such tennis triumvurate icons: Steffie Graf, Martina Navratilova & Chris Evert!

When its all said & done we may be witnessing the greatest women’s tennins player everto play the game. Consider, her humble beginnings & her lack of juniors play and you can truly appreciate the phenomenom that is:

My President is cooler than your President! Ya Dig?

So the world witnessed history unfold on 1/20/2009. Its as if the world or America stood still as the nation’s capitol was taken over by Obama supporters, admirers, celebrities etc. he’s definitely the first “people’s” President in my lifetime. I’ve never seen a public figure with his kind of support, popularity and swagger.

Barack makes the presidency & politics cool. He makes young folk like myself want to really get involved with the “remaking’ of this country. His inspiration is monumental, and I no longer wish I was born in the 60’s during the Civil Rights struggle. i’m in the right time period and it was well worth the wait. It was hard getting to this point in American history, but well worth it. Not to mention, the U.S. will never be the same because of his candidacy and that alone is critical progress…

Moreover, when have we seen a first family that both looked so good, and made you feel good about the future of this country under their watch?

The Obama’s have a swagger like no other in the history of this country. They make Americans proud in general, and African-Americans in particular. Did you see how lovely & graceful Michelle Obama floated through the ceremonies? Did you see how enraptured Sasha & Malia were during the festivities, they are so genuine, right?

This is a proud moment in US history and we all witnessed it, where were you when we crossed the threshold into a NEW AGE?

Barack is bigger than MLK?

Barack Obama is bigger than MLK. Normally this weekend would be a bevy of information about the civil rights leader, but now we are inundated with everything Obama. Is it coincidence? Or is the media trying to capitalize off the rise of his stardom?

For sure, Obama is this generations iconic leader that has been sorely missing since the days of Malcolm X, and Martin King. It seemed that each generation had an iconic leader to voice the feelings of the voiceless. Booker T. Washington had WEB DuBois, and Marcus Mosiah Garvey usurped both of them for the hearts & minds of pan-African people around the world.

Kwame Nkrumah from Ghana was a colleague of Sekou Toure of Guinea-Bissau. Haile Selassie his imperial majesty of AXUM, called Ethiopia was ompatriots with Joseph Nyere in Kenya. Leopold Senghor president from Senegal was comrades with DuBois, as well as Frantz Fanon from Martinique. As all these men were instrumental in the Negritude movement.

Stephen Biko from the Republic of South Africa was a predecessor of Nelson Mandela in the Black Consciousness movement.

Now, Obama steps on the scene. Black America and the country as a whole has been sorely lacking an enigmatic thoughtful statesman like Mr. O. Is he in the same vein as these aforementioned stalwarts of equal rights & justice for all? Only time will tell. Nonetheless, he’s come at the right time.

Finally, we have him–so lets see if we can make quantum leaps in social justice across the board for many marginalized segments of society that have been virtually ignored for the past 20-30 years. Lets see if real effective CHANGE can be attained. Its a great time to be American. Its a great time to witness this history.

There will never be another Martin Luther King, but just maybe Barack Obama is cut from the same cloth, and perpetuate the reality of hte dream that MLK espoused. Let us pray he lives to see this revelation come to fruition. We have enough martyrs, now its time to birth visionaries, statesmen, true leaders both female and male on the world stage. This is a NEW DAY!!!

Just thinking…

My soul bleeds from searching fore the reason to explain it’s existence. So it looks for meaning amongst the interests this body finds. Timeless moments captured in movies, ideas or memories can always instruct the attentive watcher.  Like songs that capture the imagination or record that special instance. Like a writer that pours out his soul on paper or online for all to read.

I’m in a trance, auto-writing this because my mind is preoccupied with thoughts of who, what, & where I am. NOT my physical frame, rather my soul & spirit that inanimate & involuntary aspect of myself. It’s like trying to extract the last drop of water out of a desert oasis, though it appears as a mirage. The power in which I attribute to it verifies the actuality of it.

Is that a dream or is this? I feel as though I’ve been reconnected to a fundamental truth. I only live for these fleeting moments that touch me so deep that my body drowns in resentment for its inability to stay more connected.

I yearn to stay present in the moment lnger. I yearn to not forget myself or my hidden power soeasily. I wish I didn’t have to be reminded how current I really am. I wish this feeling of supreme contentment would never leave. I wish I knew the trigger (ME) that causes & sustains my rememberance.

D-WADE, MVP OVER 1ST QUARTER OF SEASON!!!

D-Wade is having the best season of his career statistically speaking. Flash is on FYAH! By the numbers you already know He’s leading the league in scoring with a 29.1 points per game clip. In addition, he’s averaging 5.2 rebounds per game, and dishing out 7.3 dimes a game.

He’s fourth in steals, and is having a career best on the defensive side with his best number in the “block party” category. At one time in the top five in blocks. For a guard–thats just SICK!!

The one negative is that he’s also been leading the lead in turnovers—chalk this up to his being the only true playmaker on a squad that started 2 rookies for much of the season. Beasley now comes off the pine as 6th man.

If you don’t know by now, then you’d better ask somebody. Wade has been on a tear since the summer domination of China, Argentina & Spain. Forget what you heard, he was the best player in uniform for the USA. Flash didn’t start, but still managed to lead TEAM USA in scoring. He averaged over 16 per, and led the team with 27 in the championship game against Spain. Not sure they win the GOLD without Wad3!!! (look at the film)….

How do you explain the Heat being tied for 4th place in the Eastern conference 12/12/08 going into Friday nights game with divisional foe Atlanta Hawks? Moreover, they were tied for 2nd with those same Hawks in the Southeastern division with the Magic leading the pack.

I’ll tell you how you ’splain it—MVP caliber player, season, baller having a coming out party. Silencing the haters, critics, pundits & fake **** analysts! He’s said it him self that his season is MVP caliber. Although, he realizes that until the Heat strings together more wins in the W/L column he won’t be in contention for the league honor.

Even still, he’s got the people’s vote. He’s basically doing it alone. Not to knock UD, whose had a great season! Beasley has struggled on the defensive side, and Matrix has been spotty on offense, but a terror on the glass–an defensive end. Still, Wade is the heart & soul of a team that is outmatched with size almost every night. Couple that with a rookie coach—-and you see how valuable FLASH is to the HEAT & the NBA….

To what do we owe this meteoric resurgence? He’s playing with an edge, a chip on his shoulder. After being dogged the last two seasons with injuries, and ‘chicken little’ like criticism-dude said enough is enough! Funny how fast the pendulum swings to haters & doubters. In 2005, he was arguably the best in the leagu. Scoring at will, dishing alley-hoops to Shaq, coming off two Eastern conference finals appearances and on his way to another one.

That same year they finally surpassed the Pistons in the East, and went on to steal the heart from Nowitzki & the Mavericks along with the nBA title. To his credit, Wade won MVP honors for the finals. He had the most ‘Jordanesque” finals of any player since Jordan hung em up for good.

As a matter of fact, he had better overall numbers (averaging) than any  Jordan finals appearance. Wade was as dominant as Miami was WHITE HOT! You already know what it is..

Funny how times change, and this is the main reason Flash is on a tear throughout the NBA this season. If he gets help, from another breakdown penetrator & playmaker, along with a quality big man that defend & rebound–no one will want to see the Heat in April. NO ONE!!

Wade has won player of the week honors twice already this season. His latest, for the week of December 1-7. Where he fired of games of 37, 23 (hmm) & 38! He blazed Golden State, Utah, & OKC.

His overall game has improved, he’s improved his mid-range jumper, his 3 point range, and his defense! He’s even more of a vocal  leader on & off the floor with his team. Wade has been & will continue to be dominant over the course of the season!

Final word, only Oscar Robertson & Michael Jordan have averaged the numbers Wade has posted this season. MJ did it once & the BIG O did it six times. How is that for perspective on this kids season thus far? Yea kid, he’s only 26—not even in his prime yet, with an NBA title under his belt!!!

Can a new year be born out of death, frigidity & void? Or is the new year really in spring when all of nature renews, replenishes & reinvigorates itself with new life?

So, how did this time come to be celebrated as such, especially when the opposite seems to be true. What is the underlying meaning of this auspicious time of the year?
